Inspired by the classic David Bowie pop hit, The E.A.R. Unit surveys fresh new works by young American mavericks from across the country. The ensemble plays Daniel Wohl's +ou-, Oscar Bettison's Gauze Vespers, Ryan Brown's Our Friend Adam, Jamu by Christine Southworth, and a brand-new work from Matt McBane.

Los Angeles’ own “wizards of new music” (L.A. Weekly) bring their magical sound to an amphitheater set against a backdrop of animal enclosures with a program inspired by the Zoo’s residents. Prepare to experience twentieth-century icon Terry Riley’s Lysol Apes Polka, the breathtaking Bird In Warped Time composed by Somei Satoh, Morton Subotnick’s amphibious Axolotl, John Luther Adams’s exhilarating drum quartet from Coyote Builds North America, and local heroes Robert Fernandez’s Tentacles and Arthur Jarvinen’s The Vulture’s Garden, among other scintillating works – all performed with “exuberance and razor sharp precision” (The New York Times). Piccante to the core!
